Black Tide Wave System

TPO and volume profiles, Initial Balance, VWAP and the K2 ribbon: one intraday session map.

Black Tide Wave System puts the references that frame an intraday session on one overlay: where price spent time and volume (TPO and volume profiles), the range the opening auction set (Initial Balance), the volume-weighted averages price rotates around (VWAP) and the trend underneath (K2 Ribbon). The question it keeps asking is whether the market is accepting or rejecting the current range, and which way it leans. A Degrees of Power gauge answers that in one reading.

What’s on the chart

Each part, what it shows and why it is there.

01

TPO / Market Profile

The session is split into time brackets, and each bracket marks every price it traded. The shape shows where the auction spent its time. The POC is the busiest price, the value area holds most of the activity, and single prints mark fast moves; they stay as zones until price fills them. Older sessions can stay behind as shaded shapes, and the row size follows the live range on its own.

  • Poor highs and lows can be marked: an extreme the auction did not finish

02

Volume profile and untested levels

Beside the TPO, a volume profile counts traded volume on the same rows, with its own value area and POC; its labels can carry a small arrow showing which way the level last moved. Untested levels from every finished session are remembered until price trades back to them, and only the nearest above and below are drawn, so one from weeks back reappears as price nears it. Weekly, monthly and yearly value areas run alongside the daily one, and you choose whether these levels come from the volume profile or the TPO.

  • Volume levels draw dotted, TPO levels dashed
  • A level tested this session turns grey and freezes when the next session starts

Initial Balance

The Initial Balance is the range of the session's opening hour: the range the opening auction set. It reads the instrument's own trading hours, so there is no clock to set. It carries forward through the day as high, middle and low lines, or as a box. Extension levels project the range outward, and separate ranges can run for the Asia, London and New York sessions.

VWAPσ
04

VWAP

VWAP is the average price weighted by volume: the line a session tends to rotate around. The daily VWAP can carry standard-deviation bands and a shaded stretch zone far from the average. Asia, London and New York session VWAPs can run alongside, either stopping at the session close or carrying on as anchored VWAPs, plus one weekly, monthly or yearly VWAP. Only the live lines stay on the chart, named at the right edge.

  • Ritual Windows mode: the daily and New York bands switch at fixed times in the Bangkok day, so the bands on screen follow the part of the day
  • Session bands show for one session at a time

K2 Ribbon

The trend layer, and the only part that marks signals. A ribbon of a fast and a slow moving average is shaded bull while the fast one is above and bear while below. A badge marks the bar where they cross, confirmed at the close; it does not repaint. A long-term average, coloured by the side price is on, adds context without gating the cross, and a higher-timeframe version of it and a mid-term average can be added.

  • A2 confluence: a candle is painted when the chart crosses the slow average while the 15-minute chart already sits on the same side
  • Bull badges print below the bar, bear badges above

Degrees of Power

A gauge in the status table, not a chart drawing. It reads where price sits against four nested structures: today's Initial Balance, today's developing value area, yesterday's value area and yesterday's range. Zero is balance, inside today's range and near yesterday's value; each structure price moves beyond pushes the reading one step further toward bull or bear. It is a position, not a direction.

  • Other scripts can read it from the Data Window
  • It shows no reading until all four structures exist, which is not the same as zero

How to read it

  1. Start with the references other traders watch: yesterday's value area and POC, the nearest untested levels above and below price, and today's Initial Balance.
  2. Check position with Degrees of Power. A stretched bull reading means price is far from balance, not that it is the strongest buy.
  3. Ask whether value is being accepted. Price inside the developing value area is acceptance; price outside it and staying there is rejection.
  4. Check the trend underneath: the ribbon colour, and the badge on the bar where a cross was confirmed. On VWAP, the shaded stretch zone marks price far from the average.
  5. When an alert fires, read the context it carries: the Degrees of Power reading, the side of VWAP and the side of the Initial Balance.

Alerts

  • The K2 ribbon crosses, price reclaims or loses the long-term average, or an A2 confluence candle prints.
  • Price tags an untested level, or enters or leaves the value area.
  • Price breaks the daily or a session Initial Balance, or reaches an extension level.
  • Price crosses the daily VWAP or reaches a band; a session VWAP reaches its outer bands or comes back inside.
  • Degrees of Power flips sides or reaches a level you choose.
  • Confluence: the K2 ribbon, the side of VWAP and Degrees of Power agree, using the parts you pick.

Good to know

  • Built for intraday charts on instruments with a clear session. Use a timeframe no larger than the profile's time bracket; on daily charts the profile collapses into the first bar.
  • The volume profile needs real traded volume. Most FX and CFD feeds, gold included, publish tick count, so there it measures activity, not money.
  • Alerts are checked on the bar close by default and fire once; the K2 cross does not repaint. The higher-timeframe average can move on the live bar until its own candle closes. Nothing here tells you when to enter, and it is not advice.
  • Both profiles share TradingView's drawing limit, so with both on, fewer past sessions stay on the chart. Turn one off to see further back.

Questions

Is Degrees of Power a buy or sell signal?

No. It measures how far outside the day's agreed structure price has travelled. A trend trader and a reversion trader will read the same number in opposite ways.

Which part gives signals?

Only the K2 cross, confirmed on the bar close. Everything else on the chart is reference: levels and context to read price against. The confluence alert tests an agreement you define; it is not a validated signal.

What does Ritual Windows mode do?

It hands the daily and New York VWAP bands to a fixed schedule set in Bangkok time, so which bands show depends on the part of the day rather than on their own switches. London, Asia and the period VWAP keep their own settings.

Does it work on forex and gold?

Yes, but most FX and CFD feeds report tick count rather than traded volume, so the volume profile shows activity, not money. The TPO, Initial Balance, VWAP and K2 layers read as usual.
